SA Water

For my friends in South Australia……. If you thought you had issues with SA Water then you’d be interested to see the problems here.  A very significant proportion of the Kingdom’s water comes from desalination plants near the coast.  Obviously desalination uses a large amount of energy.  But then when you are on top of one of the largest oil fields in the world energy isn’t a problem.  Actually petrol cost approximately 20cents (12p) a litre over here.  Eat your heart out!

The water problem is one of distribution.  Riyadh’s distribution is unreliable, and in some parts of the city is doesn’t exist.  For example; all the water to my worksite will be delivered by water tankers to storage tanks.  Today I passed a tanker filling station.

It appears to be an official government filling station with all the tankers in the same livery.  Further down the same road we passed a tanker parked outside a compound with a hose going through the wall.  I mentioned the tanks on the roofs of building in an earlier post and here is another photo.

Obviously the owners of the nearer house want cold water, hence the roof over the tank.  Oh,  and water is more expensive than petrol!
